Citroen rally project

Thanks for that it is a mega project but hopefully the bulk is now done it is pretty small now and even with the cage in it feels pretty light, however back in the day they didn’t really have cages in them brave men.
I think I have gone over the top with the cage to do historical stuff but having driven some of the roads that the rally’s do in Europe I think I will have as much metal around me as possible for some of them even though I am not going to win.
Chopping the roof down and reforming was hard as the car tapers to the rear and also I thought that the head room would be an issue with the cage in and wearing helmets, but there is enough room surprisingly.
It is going to be interesting when I first drive it one day, what is it going to be like how will it handle ect hopefully it should be pretty good but unlike anything I have ever driven.

On the subject of these Citroens, there's one a couple of miles from where I live that's been parked on the pavement for at least 10 years. I've lived in the locality for more than 30 years and it almost seems that the car has always been there. It's on a main road and I pass it frequently.

Well it’s been along time and believe me this car has pushed me to the limit, nearly quit a few times it has consumed all my time for 2 years it’s a long story.
I have never driven a Ds and only a very few people have ever driven a short wheelbase one anyway and most of them are no longer hear.
Drove it for the first time last night very nervous but I can now see how awesome they must have been on the rally seen. never driven anything like it can’t wait to start pushing it but will have to wait until I have run the engine in, going sideways will be interesting.
Lock down has made me finishe it, and as restrictions have lifted my mate Miles popped round and you can see how the car is perfect when you are sitting isn’t it remember it is basically a mid engine car as the engine is behind the front wheels.
I can tell you it is the complete opposite to an Alpine it will not corner flat but I recon it will not do to badly but bucket seat will come into there own.
So hopefully when everything gets back to normal we will see how it performs.

I don't think people will be able to appreciate how involved all the changes were ,when you just remove half a meter out of the middle of a car.

Hi Stuart,
Having seen this a couple of times mid build,I'm really impressed with what you have achieved, but you must be glad that the car is now ready for the next stage. When I saw it as two pieces I did wonder what you had taken on, but I should have had more faith.
I've been pushing forward on my sons mini pickup project, and that's killing me, but it is nothing compared to this. A huge achievement.
I love the DS to look at but I have never driven one, (I used to be taken to school in one and used to love the excitement of the suspension pumping up before we could move off).It looks great, I didnt even realise they rallied them before you started this project.
Looking forward to hearing about the rally adventures.

Well after 3 an a bit years it’s done and doing the best bit the rollers, there is no massive Hp as it’s running the original old Bosh injection, it’s standard as to do classic stuff modern ecu’s are not permitted. Just got the timing spot on and fuel pressure set right, it’s a lot smoother and the flat spots sorted, it did this about 15/20 times so I built the engine right it’s just got to do a lot more in harsher conditions flat out.

But he could have the last laugh as the CX is going up in value if it’s a turbo or turbo 2.
