Venturi Driveshaft

Postby Martin Guard » Tue Jun 07, 2016 8:13 am

I wonder if anyone recognises this driveshaft? Might it be GTA/610/R25? Its mated to the UN1 gearbox
Its 83cms long (open) from end to end of spline (where the nut should be!) with 23 splines.
You can see the problem with the nut having sheared off.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks Stephen,
Does anyone have one for sale or for comparison?
Even a picture of the hub end of a GTA and/or A610 might help.

HI,

Which model Venturi is it from?

Venturi 210/260 use 720mm driveshafts from R25/Espace.

Thanks Ren5g,
The car is an Atlantique 300 which I guess has a wider wheel base than the 210/260 judging by the length of the driveshaft (83cms tip to tip) is my hub/spline the same as the Espace/R25?
The problem I have is finding an replacement or an alternative to the hub joint with the same spline/nut (the GTA/610 driveshafts have not been produced for sometime) The length of the actual driveshaft isn't a problem as this could be easily extended or shortened. Surely I can't be the first one with a GTA/610 drive shaft problem (but I'm quite happy to be a guinea pig and sort it somehow!)
I still hoping that someone, somewhere can help with identifying the hub joint. See pic in first post) Stephen seems to think it is GTA non ABS... hence me asking for a comparison or a picture.

And I seem to remember that GTA drive shafts are different lengths for each side of the car.

GTA or A610 Different lengths each side and also car specific as hub bearing totally different so 4 lengths .
I will get the measuring stick out tomorrow and check ,I've got all the above .Also have some r25 I think .Not all will be for sale though as belong to cars under resto but you may be lucky .Or I may have ones damaged in other areas so could be a donor for the hub end.I think I have the 610 driveshafts from the Clarkson crashed 610 ( Mr Metters ?) They can be disassembled/rebuilt but a bit of a delicate job as you have to release the metal casing and refit ....

Hi Martin,

I'm afraid I can't identify the shaft you need but can eliminate one of the possibles. The attached enlarged photos of the shafts and hub from my A310V6 show that the shaft end detail differs and it looks as if the hub has 27 splines, certainly more than 23.
Do you know from which production car the hubs were obtained?

Evening John,
That's the problem... finding out which production car they pinched them from!
Stephen thought they might be GTA and Lee's kindly looking into that as an alternative/replacement for the spline having sheared off its nut..
Sadly there's been a deafening silence from France hence my concern to finding a solution here.
Thanks very much for your interest. At least that eliminates one idea.

They do look like GTA non ABS and yes the GTA/610 ones are different lengths so tread carefully. I guess Clee can confirm when he checks lengths.

The R21 Turbo could be another option that they may have used. It's another UN1 car with quite a bit of torque. Could be a cheaper option for the end splines anyway to potentially repair yours.

21turbo espace V6 & R25 use all the same splines (27diff side& 23 hubside) its just the length that changes.

If you havent already look on http://communaute-venturi.fr/ sign up and there is a list of cross over parts or post the question.

I have one espace shaft at home but that is all. The outer end of the shaft (that is broken) is actually the easier part as it should unclip from the main shaft and is a conventional cv joint. That bit could be swapped and should be ren 25 or espace. I can measure it when I get home at the weekend and then maybe you can compare. The UN1 end of the shaft has more lateral movement than a cv joint and would be hard to get made, but that's ok as that end isn't damaged, we just need to swap the outer bit over,
Clee has the remains of the Clarkson car drive shafts, one was damaged at one end the other at both, but the ouster hub should be useable on one of them.
If I remember correctly Renault claims the 610 shaft was a substitute for the Gta. The 610 a strengthened shaft compared to the GTA, but Lee is also correct, the wheel bearings are very different so I'd want to measure up the other end.
I'm sure we can work out a fix for this fault.

Lee, that's absolutely brilliant. Thanks a bunch. I'm more than happy to contribute to the Paint Fund.
I'll email you my address.

None of my usual contacts in France could help, in fact, none of them had ever replaced a 300 driveshaft. The comment was that they were a bit of a cobble of various shelf parts to fit the wider wheelbase of the 300. So I'm a guinea pig! Heigh Ho!
