Another lucky escape

hi all
i was out at stunned monkeys place (martin) saturday evening and on the drive home my lights went dim for a while and i could smell burning plastic then the lights were ok but the battery light then came on i arrived home i went back out to start it and it just kept clicking called the rac out as you do and the discovered 6 bolts/studs had fallen out of the exhaust manifold which then made the small heat shield weld its self to the starter motor the live feed to the rear had shorted out and it burnt a corroded terminal going to the battery thank god for a bit of corrosion eh :wink:
when i checked the manifold most of them were loose
all fixed now and its running great suspension and rear arms just been replaced what a difference now
i let martin have a drive he seemed impressed with it i had to sort my carbs and ignition out again i have seen 3 so called experts with weber carbs and everytime the car comes out i get problems coughing and spluttering and a£400-500 estimate for a rebuild i,ll stick to doing them myself in future

How the hell do you manage to have all 6 bolts fall out of the manifold!? :lol:

How does she handle now? 8)

hi david
it handles superb coz now i actually got some suspesion
the old stuff was completely knackered even the brakes feel good now
and the bolts were put on by the mechanic who rebuilt the engine he forgot to tighten 1 complete side by the looks of it

It was a lot of fun to drive and the steering was magic compared to a DeLorean/Esprit but I think it had a lot to do with driving position (and the DeLorean's pedals are a lot nicer IMO!)

Thw twin turbo is gettign a good road test right now. Rich's doing about 1000 mile round trip then back to the rolling road!
