seeds of doubt in a 91 head

Postby EATMYPLASTICARSE » Tue Jan 09, 2007 1:55 am

Hi, went for a spin in my brother-in-laws 1995 rwd 911 (the last of the air cooled) cost him a bargain £18,000 ( his words ) yesterday and yes it looks nice, goes well, as it should with around 270bhp and feels well built but their was something missing- it just never felt like a supercar.
The windscreen is very upright, the interior was small and not very special and you certainly do not lay into the seating position like you do with the GTA but the most telling thing for me was when i took him out in my GTA after our blast in the porsche.
Rob had never sat in a GTA untill then and as soon as he sat down and shut the door he said "wow this is sporty" on our drive he kept comparing it to his car even the performance of my Atmo! . When we got back and I parked behind his 911 he asked me how much i had paid for my GTA and when i said £2,200 he went all quite, Then after a few moments he said "John that is some F**king car". Alpine 1....Porsche 0
never really ever thought that i would own a gta, but am i happy that i do!!.

As you all know, Alpines have a large following in the land of the autobahn. On a continental web-site a german guy explains why he prefers a car with french electronics and logic instead of his porker 'workhorse'.
He says that he 'pilots' the Alp but only commutes in his souless porker.
I guess 'soul' is cheap but reliability is expensive....

My Brother was also impressed with the GTA on the Monza trip .As good as his 928 as a cruiser ,but goes round corners a lot better
He still wants a 911 though   Style over substance

The PRV is such an underrated engine. Sometimes figures only go so far...
