they've always charged the cherished plate fees though so that's nothing new

A little suggestion for you all - something I discovered by accident. Keep a record of that 12 digit serial number (the one you use to tax the car on line). If you have that, you can get a replacement free of charge.

I had a reg doc that was filled out with my ex girlfriend as the new keeper, but it was never sent off, so I needed a duplicate. Just say the original has been defaced...

I've just been fined for not taxing a car that I sold (to a guy in France) last october. Apparently if you send the documents off, but don't get a confirmation letter within 4 weeks, it's your problem if they then fine you.

Maybe because they actually understand that hybrid cars leave a far greater 'carbon footprint' from their manufacture than can be saved in their usage.
If they really wanted to do something other than raise tax, they'd do something about airplanes. IIRC one london to NY jumbo flight uses more fuel than all the F1 cars use during all the races combined in a season....
