Dismantling/Reassembling Standard GTA/610 Door Mirrors

Hi Folks,

Could anyone out there who has previously refurbished their door mirrors give me some advice on the 'correct' way to detach and reassemble the mirror body from the metal base plate. Should the two parts be separated whilst the mirror is still on the car, or once the whole assembly has been removed; similarly with refitting? Seen a new kit, and the vertical sprung clip (conical top and bottom) and the horizontal clip forwards of the spring seem to be very strong, and I don't want to force anything and break it.

Also, any advice on the right primer coat for the plastic mirror body would be helpful.

hi paul, never done a610 mirrors but if they are the same as the gta you need a wide jawed pair of grips to compress the two pins and then seperate the mirror head from the mounting.if you want to paint paint the mirror head you need to apply a plastic parts primer first then a primer,flat down when dry and then apply final colour. i do this for a living if you send me your mirrors ill repaint them for you poberbly cheeper than buying the paint yourself. just let me know.

The conical pieces often seize in the metal bracket and make it a pig to remove the mirror body from the mount. Once you are sure they are both moving you stand a better chance.

On the plus side once you have seperated them and cleaned up and greased the cones they go back together much more easily.
