Ok,

finally found some time to get to the car, looked for problems with the TDC plugs but although my car has no plug the wires are soldered together just fine. So either TDC has suddenly failed or it's a different problem

How easy is it to replace the TDC?

By the way just in case you thought i'd been slacking on the Alpine front here's the reason why:

Do you have TDC Martin? Could you put it in with the shield/bolts?

oh no ... TDC has gone missing, is that a bit like an ecu as well matey?

Jon, you can check the continuity of the TDC sensor at the ecu plug, I would do this before chopping out what you have. It's a very simple back biased inductive sensor, nought to go wrong. If you measure across pins 11 and 28 ecu loom end, then it should read 142 to 184 ohms.

Is everything else working ok? I would check continuity on your grounds, and ecu loom pins 1,2 and 18 back to ground. Is the injection relay coming in with the ignition?

If the wires from the TDC are soldered red to red, white to white, it will not run. Red to white and all will be fine. Seriously!!! Don't ask how I know.
