i thought alpines were for going fast!

mircas are for the eco freaks.......

No no Simon, you have it round the wrong way, Micras are for going fast and Alpines are for Eco freaks...

well actually there maybe some truth, as it seems they are quite economical considering the 3 litres odd.

Maybe 'they' may give a discount on my road tax for driving such an economical car.... yeah some chance of that I think

Hi Clive
How about getting it going :?: Can you give us some info of what is wrong, ie:- no reading at all, static reading, and does the speedo work, any info like that might help, if you are interested in getting it going, someone might be able to help

Hi John,
I'l have to check what's working and what isn't and let you know. My speedo works fine and the amount of fuel in the tank registers, but most of the other readings have never worked. I just haven't bothered to fix it.

In answer to a22 and other doubters of my fuel economy, I check my mpg by brimming the tank every time I fill up, and re-setting the trip mileometer. I'm fairly sure that after my trip to Bath when I thought I got nearly 40 mpg for the trip, when I next filled up I got an average of around 35 mpg and that included some town driving. I haven't adjusted the carbs myself, I have the car serviced by Chris Rabbetts at Roadspeed, so it is he who has worked the magic!

Perhaps I'm being a bit optimistic (wishful thinking?), I'll monitor my fuel consumption more closely and let you all know the result, but it may take a while as I don't use the car much in summer, it's motorbike time!

fuel computer

Postby cheslynjay » Thu Jul 03, 2008 9:08 pm

Does anyone have any ideads on fixing the fuel computers?my fuel computer also registers the amount of fuel correctly but the other readings when the button sometimes does allow you to flick through the various modes shows just dashed lines.(like how morse code written)

Also when first starting up the computer always shows 8888 then you press the button and the correct fuel amount is displayed and remains correct.

As for fuel consumption,my estimate and workings get my Alpine to average 23mpg. My lorry fully loaded around town constant stop start does 5mpg.If running empty on the motorway it will do 11mpg.
Anyone want to buy into a haulage buisness?

Hi Clive
Glad to here you would like to fix it. But one quick check for me please, switch the computer to MPG, (if you can  ) go for a 4 to 5 mile drive, and let me know what the reading is. (if there is one) :)

Hi
Second bit first, Does this only happen when you disconnect the battery? or each time you switch on the ign?
First bit. It sounds to me that that you have intermittent connectors on the back of the instrument panel, and or intermittent connectors to the dash switches. You will have to remove the instrument panel and clean all the connectors with Electrolube or similar, plugging and unplugging each connector in turn, a few times, to clean off the surface corrosion on the contacts. Once you do that and the dash switch works consistently, switch to MPG, go for a run and let us know what the reading is (if there is one  )

I'm getting about 28 on a 60 mile round trip commute, a mixture of motorwa and standing traffic. Low 30s on a long motorway run and low to mid 20s when I'm enjoying myself.

What sort of miles do you GTA Turbo guys get to a tank-full ?.

Given the inaccuracies of the fuel gauge, i was going to drive mine until it ran out of fuel. I have 2 full fuel cans under the hood.
But i chickened out today, and filled it up @ 235 miles.

I would not run it out of fuel, think of all the crap in the bottom of the fuel tank you might drag through.

Sounds like your getting around 20 mpg ish? You may get 30 on a run not using the turbo, I usually got around 25 out of mine with a mix of blast and sensible driving.

Surely you have not bought your GTA for an economic every day car?

No, ive not brought it for MPG.. lol
My other car is a Dodge Truck that does 16mpg ave !.
Prior to that was a 5.7 Camaro with 125hp shot of Nitrous.

I just wanted to know what Miles it would do on a tank, since the fuel gauge is useless.
That 235 miles was heavy driving, and lots of playing with the Turbo over the last week.
