Coolant Header Tank- where is it from??

Postby mettersl » Mon Jun 14, 2010 5:50 pm

When in Macon I was talking to a French A610 owner who told me they have a habit of splitting the coolant header tanks.

Naturally I listened intently and then thought "never heard of that one", but yesterday I had a look at mine and if you take it out of the brackets, there are a couple of big cracks appearing at the back. OK now but definitely one to watch.

Having had a small coolant leak recently, I'd like to change the tank before it goes- but even the discounted price is 107 euro, so I was wondering if anyone knows where it came from originally....it has some extra features that make you think the GTA wasn't its first use.
Anyone know??

Someone told me it was from a megane or Renault 19, not sure which but I have not seen the same one as from a GTA.

Anyway Lee, step into my office I as have 2 very good "pre-owned" ones in stock

lets see...they must be older than mine - are you sure there aren't any cracks at all? Maybe Renault changed materials (cheaper) for later cars??

Its only 25 euro new from Mecaparts.....! ;=))

Probably not much good unless you're embarking on the full monty and creating a totally re-engineered car, but thought it might be of use to someone as these guys are down the road from me and it's an Aladin's cave of goodies.

funny how the Ren UK price is half the special price from Dieppe!!

I think I'd better get a second opinion on the parts that I was thinking of buying from the list.

I tried the "it's the same as a Renault Megane Scenic" theory recently but couldn't find the right model etc. And the cost was going to be the same as a new one from Simon Auto, which is the route I took.

Same price as the one from Renault that Mr Dell has quoted but no waiting for back orders etc.

The best bit is that I can now see the coolant level through the new, clean bottle rather than having to open it to see what's what!

It's from an Espace.

Sometimes you get a new cap as well from Renault.

Crap discount code though only 10% for members.

Just a bit of useless info on these reservoirs.....according to the parts list, the Atmo one is different to the Turbo, Le Mans & 610. :?
I am off to my friendly Renault Parts assistants to check if available, and price,
I fancy changing mine as when the Alp was new it had Type C coolant which tended to go brown ( or allowed the metal pipes to rust ) and stain the reservoir. Since then they changed to Type D which does not discolour the reservoir, ( and it does not appear to let the pipes rust either ) and like jonc, I would like to be able to see the level through the tank
