How to re-set the radio code...?

Postby NLB » Sun Jan 16, 2011 12:23 pm

Dear all,

My GTA (1989 D500) had a flat battery over Christmas - after re-charging it, of course I had to input the radio code. Being vague and having cold fingers, I got it wrong, and now the radio is locked. I am slightly surprised that it doesn't give one a second chance, and that even disconnecting the battery again and leaving it for a while doesn't allow the re-input of the code. How do I unlock it? Or, should I just say to hell with originality, and put in the modern radio/cd I have stuck in the back of the garage...?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Luke,

Here is the info you want from the radio users manual.

"Important:
If the code entered is incorrect, an error "bleep" will be emited and the message COD will appear on the display.
You may then re-enter the code following the method described above but to do so you must leave the set switched on and wait one minute before recommencing the operation.
If this new attempt is unsuccessful you can re-start the operation still keeping the set switched on. but the amount of time between attempts will increase successively from 2,4,8,16 to 32 minutes,"

Hope this helps

Wow, that was quick! Thanks very much!

I have wads of manuals and paperwork, but one thing I don't have is the Radio User's Manual...

Thanks again.

Errr... yes! Absolutely sir! Will join - it is only inefficiency that has stopped me so far.

And, um, I am about to ask another "GTA ownership for the under 5s" type question, so I really should join, this time.

If you have an alpine this is the only club/forum to be in, as there is always someone who will know the info you need. Get involved bud it is well worth it.
