Door Problem

Postby mogster242 » Mon Jan 24, 2011 9:47 pm

Hi guys,

i have a big problem, i cant open the doors.... the battery is currently disconnected so the central locking does not work. However, i should be able to unlock the doors manually. it opened no problem manually on friday but not on sat and sun... i tried both doors obvisouly

pretty frustrating especially because i had managed to free some time on the weekend to spend on the GTA and couldnt do anything...

any ideas, apart from calling the locksmith?

thanks

Put a bat or jump pack + on the starter main feed live and earth to the chassis. This will give you power and the central lock will work .

If it's a later car it still needs a voltage to unlock the doors even via the key.

Join a jump lead and battery to the chassis (-ve) and starter motor (+ve terminal). That should supply a voltage to work the car systems - it does work but you might need to wiggle the clamps to get a good connection.

Otherwise if that fails there's a trick to popping the locks manually - PM me as it really shouldn't be made public.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Just to put the record straight, you can unlock these Alps with the key and with the battery disconnected,........however if the locks are siezed then, of course, you will have trouble. Even mine are quite stiff, as I have not had to lock/unlock with the key in anger in 20 odd years, but to lubricate them and give them a new lease of life, you will have to remove the locks from behind the rear paneling to get to them, but a job well worth doing

Paul...I hope you are doing that from inside with the panel removed, as most of the mechanism is covered with polythene so spraying through gaps from the outside does very little to help

Of course John !

Had a look at Cedric's locks on Sunday. There are truly stuck in the locked state. The key moves the plunger visible through the window, up or nearly all the way up, but the door remains firmly locked.
Lets hope when the power pack is connected, that the remote is able to shift it to unlock. I guess it will make no difference if it's siezed.

You need to call Mr D
He's quite handy with a coat hanger .......he will have to get to the emergency lever on the floor mind but I'm sure he's been there before :)

I'm IN!!!! :D woohoo

Andrew said that the early models do need power to unlock the doors even when opened manually with the key. this was changed on later models as many people couldnt get in their cars when the battery was dead...

anyway, spent the evening drying the electrics inside. also discovered one cable had broken from its crimped spade connector.. next to the oil filter... will have to recrimp that...

Thanks all for your help :)
