Help! I need a single measurement.

Postby Oldskoolbaby » Mon Apr 16, 2012 10:44 pm

I'm currently considering fitting a un1 gearbox to my clio v6 as a back up idea instead of a Sadev that might never turn up. Do any of you kind folk know the distance from the front of the cambelt to the very rear of the un1 gearbox on your v6 Alpines. I have 41 3/4 inches to play with.

Thanks

:!: Are you converting the Clio V6 from transverse (East-West) engine to inline (North-South) set up???

Not a chance ,the UN1 including bell housing is 28 inches long and the PRV V6 is 19 inches long from the front of the pulley to where the bell housing mounts. And then you still have to allow for gear linkages.

That's 47 inches.

The James Bird Rallycross car has a longditudinal mounted engine but I'm not sure if ir's a UN1 box.And it's a real tight fit. Are you vertically challenged?
If you're going to put turbos on it, how much power are you aiming at. As the UN1 has weaknesses.

Thanks guys. Luckily I won't be using the PRV engine. Ill be using the L7X which is 14 inch's wide or long depending how you look at it. That should give me 42 and a nats cockerel inch's. I should beable to work with that I reckon as I'm after 41 and 3/4s.

The plan is to turn the engine 90* if I can't get the sadev I've been waiting for. I'm aiming for around the 375-400hp ballpark initially and more over time. I reckon the un1 will be pretty highly strung at that level so the plan is to upgrade one upto 6 speed and dog engagement.

What about your balls!

How will you ever make space for the huge testicles required to drive a 400bhp V6 Clio though

Haha. This is one thing i have not considered! I'm pretty sure it'llbe fine in the dry. It might be a handfull in the wet but thats what I want to be honest. I would have stuck with a typical boring fwd hothatchif I wanted utter predictability.

I know what you mean

I think everyone should own one car thats a little bit scary. Predictability can be good if your racing someone or on a circuit though. I sold my 182 Cup (predictable but still great fun) to sink the money into a Renault 8 project (1.4 dini/5GT hybrid @ 200bhp and hopefully under 700kg) which I'm pretty sure will be more exciting

I've checked the 'projects' section and I can't see this anywhere.
Please tell me more!

Tucked away

Postby Tony Smith » Tue Apr 24, 2012 5:13 pm

I bought it a few months back of Gary Angelos (remember the 180 bhp Gordini turbo). Just a solid base car at the moment and a collection of bits and its still in his lock up so i can't take any pics. Should have a space at home in about 3 weeks if everything goes according to plan. It's really a project for next year, but if money goes well I'm hoping to get the engine built towards the end of the summer. I'll post up more details in the projects section as have updates on the Alps too.

That will be excellent. Another couple of weeks have flown past and still no comeback with the sadev. Looks like this idea Stephen has thrown at me might come to light.
