I noted a bit of a blowy exhaust sound coming from the atmo last few days - I put it down to having the windows open.
The exhaust, a stainless mecaparts one, would last forever I thought so I it could not be that...
Anyway, one tail pipe dropped off on the A24 dual carriageway and scared the bejeesus out of the minicab driver behind - luckily it did not hit him.
It seems (or seams) that the welding is not really up to it,,,luckily I retrieved the part which involved a dangerous half mile jog by the time I could pullover. I had flashbacks of the 999 or Crimewatch reconstructions...whenever people are alone walking on dual carraigeways bad things happen...anyway still here to tell the tale.
I can still drive it - just sounds a bit more lively.
This is the second failure on that exhaust system - cracked manifold after 18 months, and now this...though it is 9 years old now...
Anyway - the moral is.... if you have a stainless exhaust and it sounds a bit blowy...it is likely to be the sign of a catastrophic failure about to occur (given they don't perforate) - stop and make an exhaustive check !!!!
