Hope it's the last for at least a good while
Just got back - symptom: driving just fine, then I felt the engine misfire. Not too badly, but just a kind of hesitation. Then, put my foot down a bit to maintain speed, but no dice... Just couldn't accelerate.
It seemed the harder I pushed, the slower the car wanted to go. Eventually, I managed to limp to a layby, where the car spluttered and died. It would run (albeit lumpily) for a bit, but then it just wouldn't start again. I notice the earth for the fuel pump relay has been bridged but I suspect that there's something else wrong. Either the fuel pump itself or the fuel pump relay? Sadly I didn't think of swapping the relays round while I was stranded at the roadside!
The hard starting issue is still there (or at least it was before the breakdown)! After more investigation, interestingly enough, it starts very easily from cold. On the button with no accelerator. If it's hot, it also starts pretty much instantly. However, if it has been left a little while, it seems to need cranking for quite a while before it starts.
I have a new distributor cap and rotor arm ready to fit. Car is waiting outside my friendly garage as that's where I had it dropped off tonight by the recovery people. Let's hope it's still there in the morning!
