New GTA owner

Postby stuart1927 » Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:56 am

Hi Folks...I just bought a 1989 GTA turbo with 33k miles, in very nice condition.

I'm looking forward to sharing some details/impressions when I get the car in a couple of weeks.

As a rare car, there isn't too much info online so hope to gain a lot from membership of the club.

I was wondering if there are any guides to these cars in terms of ongoing maintenance or things to look out for?

My car has 2 former owners (father and son) and has been kept extremely well. There appears to be no issues with any subframe rot etc. but with such a low mileage, and recently very little use, there can be issues associated with that (as for most cars). Would be interested to hear about any pro-active maintenance I should consider for this beast! I've primarily been a Jaguar XJS owner in the past 10 years, so this is very different from anything I have previously owned.

May thanks

Stuart

Welcome :wave For starters it would help to know where in the country you are? Joining the club is the best bet for help with these cars and there are many threads in the members area which will help with keeping these great driver cars on the road.
Good luck with the car, look forward to hearing all about it in the future.

Sorry guys, I should have said, I'm in Brora, up in the Highlands of Scotland.

And yes it was the car for sale in Kent!

Cheers

Well, if you drove it back, you'll know that they are great grand tourers, but you are in a great place for a GTA. Welcome to the Alpine family.

Photos please.

My advice is that if the major chassis/suspension Components are in good condition treat them to some rustproofing or remove and repaint or Powder while they are still in a decent state.

Change all the fluids especially brake fluid and gearbox oil if they haven’t been done recently,

Gearbox Oil is the same change interval as engine and often gets overlooked.
