Twin Intercooler

In keeping with the 2bobanaconka ethos .......Fiat coupe made for the job 8)
All I need is two 90 deg bends ,a straight and a bit of ali pipe

looks like you may need some ducting for cool air heat transfer to take place.

Im not enthused at the concept, but to make it easier Lee, pull open the ally tabs on the end nearest the back, and rotate the plastic end housing 180 degrees, and fit it back again... it will line up almost with your silicone hose then..

Actually Lee, NOOOOO don't do it..

That engine bay gets to easy over 60c, that intercooler is just going to sit in heat, or at worse, heat up the charge that has been 'cooled (loose term)', by the OEM intercooler. The OEM one may have next to no airflow, but at least the air going over it isnt as warm as the engine.

I would like to see some one cut one or two 6" holes in the GRP behind the OEM intercooler, and then run some large diameter ducting from the holes, down the inner wings scooping air from underneath the car. At least you will then have cool air actually going through the intercooler, and it costs nothing in real terms.

I'll have a look at the end tank :idea:
I know it's going to be in a hot place ,I've got the side pod vent opened up that side as well as where the air filter sits .Can move it further back under the shelf or down if I need .I can get forced air to it from above or below as there is the old turbo extractor fan hole in the side panel as well .That and possibly a fan as well .I can easily see how much it gets soaked without doing any more , just make it secure and drive about a bit ..
Remember I have the slots opened up in the side ,no cover and a slated rear screen so it gets loads of air flow over the top of the engine when on the move....... If Ferrari can do it I should have no problem .

Found just the jobs for air ducting at Merlin Motorsport .Little collector @ the vent to a big one on bottom of the cooler .It will only cover the visible area but it will be good fast cold air pushing upwards and being sucked out the rear slats 8)

My experience is that the air flow through the std intercooler is from the spoiler grill and into the intercooler. This is easily seen when driving in the rain, with out an engine cover..... water droplets enter the engine bay at quite a pace through the 2 grill end vents that would normally feed the engine cover. I suspect that running ducts from under the car will make this cool air fight the flow of the air entering from the spoiler grill.

Why not fit an A610 intercooler..... this is what the Europa cup cars look like they did?

I haven't got a 610 cooler ,I doubt there are any lying about .The twin setup will work far better anyway as long as I get cold air fed to it .Renault will want a lot more than the £20 I paid for the Fiat jobby.I would get a custom one made if I had that sort of cash .
My accountant was round yesterday.Payment on account :evil: Do you think Gordon B will bail me out ? It's not my fault I'm inept either .

Yes, but only by a vacuum at speed. Must be better to force it through in the correct direction surely..

Hence the A610, the cooler is mounted the other way round, and air pushing down on the spoiler is forced through the intercooler core..

Just a concern as its above the manifold, and the 'cold' side of the intercooler passes right past the hottest part of the downpipe from the turbo..

It would actually be better to put an intercooler before the OEM one, inplace of the 'Turbo' pipe. Seeing as the post turbo chargetemps are into the hundreds, even if a core there does suffer some heat soak issues, its not going to increase the charge, best case the same or still lower them. Can't be anyworse that having a pipe that does no intercooling at all...

Where your thinking of having it, 'could' increase the temps back up again.

All done .I need to compare air temps but the sensor seems to have gone wrong .It reads 80c from stone cold in Adaptronic , although its resistance is right ...............

PIKEY !!!!

Well ,it's a honeymoon fit up the take-off connector !!!! I think Darren did something similar for his water temp .Bog-std food thermometer with a long probe .It will allow me to compare the two setups and will also 'ping' if the intake temp gets to high :lol:
I also should get another boost gauge to plumb in pre-cooler/s to check pressure drop as well .
