Well this is it....tommorrow the public weigh bride for the equivalent of the weightwatchers weigh in, and on Friday a rolling road session to fine tune and measure the beast. Have filled the car with boosted 100 octane fuel so no cheating on the full fuel tank rule!!! will post those all important results when I know them. Hoping for 1050 kilos and 240 bhp at the wheels. (260 at the flywheel??)

Pete, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your normally looking around 40bhp transmission losses on a GTA...

Naughty naughty! Is it not supposed to be standard road fuel with no booster for your 'standard' class? :wink:

Transmission losses

20bhp loss, I wish, bank on about 20% or more if you have wider than standard back wheels. I saw a car lose 5 bhp at the wheels changing from 165-185 section tyres years ago. My 218 bhp 21 Turbo lost 48 bhp through the transmission - same gearbox! Its not all bad my old 4wd Legacy turbo lost 80bhp from 250bhp! so all those 300 bhp Imprezas have about 200-210 at the wheels.

Oh well....220bhp at the wheels then...as for 1080kgs to start, the figure quoted on the site is 1200kgs, hence why I was aiming for 1050. Anyway I will know the weight by mid afternoon tommorrow and will post as soon as.

as for the 100 octane....thats only for the rolling road of course...because no one else boosts their fuel.....that would be cheating!! :wink:

Well, its not good!!! 1130kgs with 13 1/2 gallons of petrol on board. A gallon of petrol weighs 4 1/2 kgs so even without fuel it weighs 1070kgs. My race weight is therefore likely to be around the 1080-1090kgs. Not as light as I'd hoped. I guess those massive wheels must weigh a lot more than standard (before anyone says anything, no, I'm not replacing them with standard ones!!!!!!!!) because the rest of the car is either standard or lightened.
How much does a Mitsubishi evo weigh????

Standard weight 1180 you now have 1080 ?
I thought with the amount of bits you was removing the reduction would be more than 100Kgs ? :?

Peterg, rather dissappointing to say the least, I wonder how much extra weight the rest of us must be carrying? When was the last time the weigh bridge was calibrated?
Did they charge you much for the weighing?
Just to make it a bit simpler, 1 litre of water =1 kg and I guess the weight of Petrol is much the same as water. Also 1 litre of water = 10cm cube and so 1m3 =1000 litres= 1 ton.
I hope you have a better day tomorrow on the rolling road. :)

As i said earlier the standard weight quoted is 1200kgs but I do have fairly monstrous wheels and tyres......I dont know if the 1200kgs quoted is with or without fuel. The weigh bridge is the local public weigh bridge and was free. No idea when it was last calibrated, but its used by all the lorries visiting the docks. I got the weight of the fuel by calculting as you did Simon, I assumed petrol weighed the same as water too. 1080kgs is still fairly light in the scheme of things.....certainly modern cars are pretty heavy by comparison due to safety equipment.

Factory weights are usually quoted dry - no petrol and possibly no oil so a standard GTA will definitely weigh more than its 1186kg quoted weight. About 1220 would be my guess. I think its unlikely the wheels weigh more than standard, I would say they feel lighter if anything but I have Azev A's which I believe are the lightest of their range but I can't see there being much difference. Whats your exact engine spec Peter and I'll have a guess at your horsepower figure?

The Lancer Evo 8 is 1480kgs with 280 bhp, so 189bhp per ton, whereas Petes car at even standard power would be the same power to weight ratio..

Hurrah!!! I looked up a few cars weights earlier in a book thats a few years old.....apparently a Nissan Skyline weighs 1610kgs!!!!!!!
Engine spec......well......hybrid turbo by David(!) straight through exhaust, piece of foam covering the pipe where the airfilter used to be with ducting running from underneath the car to feed it, chip, exhaust and turbo wrapped to manage heat, ducting from under the car to feed the intercooler with air, as well as the fan blowing on it and 3 jet water spray system. Ignition has been mildly advanced and I have the 214 injectors fitted.....and the engine was subject of a full rebuild 5000 miles ago.
Its got to be good for 260bhp.
