Door dropping (or flex in the pillar) is the clue. Its not like you can give the pillar some helpful rust proofing, as the only way to get at it is to cut all the 'glass away.

Best way to see it all it get it up on a ramp.

Thank you for reminding me about the construction of the A610. It has spent its whole life in a garage til now and I dont want it to dissolve so as much Dinitrol as can be got anywhere will be injected and I think I shall have the wishbones, engine frame etc powder coated. Now it works all the time it would be a shame if it fell apart. Interesting that the worst cars in the Top Gear survey of 76,000 were all French and the best all Japanese! I never fancied a Peugeot 307 anyway even on a bad day! ! ! :lol:

Oops. Dinitrol beats the pants off Waxoyl in my personal experience and all surveys (inc Practical Classics 1993 and 200?) so I hope you are joking. Still Waxoyl is one heck of a lot better than French unprotected metal or French unprotected anything. I keep trying not to buy an Evo VI. :(

French cars are not that bad, come on I own 4! my Gordini it was so much over protected with undersill that it actually made it worst because if you got a little hole were water could find its way through, it would rust away without you even noticing it. I think Fords and Vauxhall are a lot worst!! :wink: japanese. not much better!!!!! when it comes to rust!!! I sell the bloody things!

Well I will keep my A610, use my utterly dependable rust free Volvo V70 Turbo everyday and keep on Dinitroling my Rover P5B Coupe and Saloon. I restore British classics so rust is a daily encounter. :oops:

I notice that you live in Farnham, there are so many Alpines in Surrey area, they are becoming common as MUCK!

Ah! But mine is different, it actually drives along and does not stop and jam up the already congested local traffic. Anyway, I actually live in Hampshire albeit by only a short distance and that is much better and the Alpines are much rarer ! ! ! :lol:

Phildini, I see from your location and signature that it is in fact YOU that seems to be the biggest culprit of your so called problem.

Keep your eyes open, there might be another Alpine passing you by.

Well if I hold on to the door and gently move it up & down I can see it moving within the top hinge so I've got a good idea it's probably just the hinge. I have in the past unbolted both the hinge plates and they look sound as does the surround.
Still worrying about what can be lerking underneath though :roll:

Looks like Alpine did a bit of a cockerel up with this door pillar, :shock: how can you put metal so close to fibreglass without being treated or accessible??? French hey...... they really think of everything.... Come to think of it, all the renaults I ever had have always had some kind of hinge problem, the worst is the 11 Turbo, 21 Turbo and 5 GT turbo where the hinge is welded half to the pillar and half to the door, the pins wear the hinge, so replacing the pins dont really make any difference. :? PLONKERS!!!
Still got to love those French 80's supercars though. 8)

Little known fact...all the subframes/chassis were made for Alpine by coach builders Heuliez.
