Lee, contact the chief scrutineer, explain your circumstances just to get their acceptance, show them a "factory option", the louvred covers from Flieshmann and Simon Autos etc. Yours is more like the original when compared to the other available alternatives.
The regs do say that the opening mechanisms need to be there too.

Factory option? When was the louvred rear a factory option?? I think youre even stretching the truth to yourself now!!! Glass is available 2nd hand from several outlets, not least David G who had more than one in stock last time I asked.
The interior is looking good......particularly the doors. I assume youve already stripped the metal out of the rear seats....in which case why dont you remove the covers, buy some fabric dye for £5 and make them black. Cheap and easy!

It had a frog in it's throat ...................

Some dipstick info ...........

There are two lengths of tube
Image

One is 35mm longer .If you measure from the bolthead adjacent to the tube top it will be either 110 mm or 145mm .The dipstick for the 110mm is 535mm long .Would be wise to check as you can overfill by a good 2L

Have reset the tappets  It may be me but the shortcut method doesn't seem to work ...........................All individually set now and it sounds sweet :D There was a point when I thought I'd f###ed something up but all's OK I think ,resonating from the way off tappets .................. a a few little oil leaks from the covers but apart from that all's well .
You can't see much of the tarty bits insitu mind  I may be back on the road next week .................
It's been 8 months  but I've learnt a lot and about to tackle the next one with a few mods...................................

After reseting the tappets the RH rocker cover was leaking oil onto the manifold  Turned out I've stripped a thread,at the front, near the water pipes, the worst to get at  .For once I'm glad about the M7 shite as I have managed to retap it M8 .Just hope it's done the job .......................

The best advice I can give is to throw away the rocker cover gaskets, clean the surfaces with brake cleaner and use RTV silicone. It's so much more reliable than those pesky gaskets. I simply don't bother with them any more.

Just got back from bedding the rings in 8) 2000rpm in 4th ,floor it for 10 secs then coast for a bit .Think I annoyed a few people on the dual carriageway  They would overtake this ploding old lump only for me to come rocketing past a few seconds later . It seems to be running very well :D 100 mile trip tommorow then oil and filter change .

All run in and sounding good :D :D Though the tappets need doing AGAIN Hottest day of the year as well and the water temp goes just past 90 when in traffic and the oil pressure never drops below 5 on the move 8) really hot and at idle it sits right on 3 .That is with some Duckhams mineral in for the bedding in so I'm expecting a bit more when it's settled down and got the proper fluids in . :!:

I'll get it on a RR in the next couple of weeks to see how it stands up ,then start some real mods
