If you run the pipes above the positive terminal, they will then be higher than the water pump..

It doesn't matter if they're higher than the water pump as long as they're lower than the expansion tank. The original pipework on the right is higher than the water pump.

The ECU is there waiting to go in but unfortunately DeLorean work has to take priority and we've got two BIG projects that have to come in for at least the next month..

It'll give Rob a chance to sort out his interior in the mean time anyway!

For future reference, has anyone ever heard of high lift cams in a 3 litre engine? The pistons are pocketed already suggesting that it may not be possible - that they're as high as they can be already.... anyone know for sure?

No its not, the only point where it goes higher than the pump is where it goes over the dizzy, which is coincedentally where the overflow output is the the header tank, hence any air bubbles bleed out of it at that high point.

If you have the pipes higher than the point where the overflow is but at the back the engine you will build up an air lock at that point. Bubbles can't go downwards..Best of moving the overflow pipe... :)

It don't matter if they overheat ..................You can just go back to ............................................ :oops: :oops: I think they do that to get the current prices ,can't see how else :lol: :wink:

Martin, if you actually read my posts properly, instead of rushing an answer trying to 'catch me out' then we wouldnt have these futile 'arguments'....

I just said above, that the water pipes go higher then the water pump across the dizzy on the GTA (which would cause an air lock) but at the same point the overflow feed goes to the headertank, relieving this problem..

Likewise with the Delorean, the water pipes go higher than the water pump, but BEFORE this point, the feed goes off to a higher point, the header tank, thus preventing any airlocks..

Once again, if you have the pipes on the GTA higher at the back of the engine bay without a bleed screw or t-off before it meets the header tank then you will get air lock problems, but what do I know....... :roll:

Hoses not even visible on that image go higher than the water pump on the DeLorean. I'm not trying to "catch you out", merely voicing experience from actually working on these engines.

The image you posted doesn't even include the water pump because it was used to illustrate the problems of block corrosion beneath the intake manifold, taken by Mike Babb, longtime member of the DML

Trust me, the DeLorean cooling system DOES contain air locks, one of which blatantly shown in the right of you photo, but as long as you know about them, are a piece of "wee wee" to alleviate.
