£1K is still expensive for a Phase 1 engine and box especially when it's out of a crashed car and you have no mileage history, try and squeeze him down some more.... i'd say the box on its own is only worth £200-300 max to an avantime or laguna or espace v6 owner

you can use the engine and i've heard there is a bellhousing adapter for the UN1 to make it mate to the clio engine now doubt someone on here wil know....

Don't waste your time with the Clio engine. Buy Neil's Laguna engine (spryboy) in the for sale section, a bargain for certain.

I've always fancied putting the clio engine into a Spider, but since I don't currently have a spider that one will have to wait....

The next project is my Range Rover plan..... The Spider will have to wait for a small lottery win!

The Clio engine has a couple of issues, one that the throttle body will be jammed up against the rear of the car in the spoiler area, and also the exhaust ports are 2 per cylinder so the cost of getting manifolds made would be very expensive.

There is nothing off the shelf bellhousing adaptor wise, but having an adaptor plate made is complex and time consuming, but not insurmountable.

You cannot run the engine transverse with the standard box as the chassis isnt wide enough.

Also, there is no adaptable lower casing for the engine so the mounts would have to be made from scratch.

So for 225bhp, not really worth it.

I agree the parts are readily available to make the L7X engine 300bhp + but to do it is serious serious money. You could get more power with the 4 pot turbo, and still have more low down torque too, as I know full well people like Huger who tune the V6s make peak torque around 6k, and not much below.

Okay,
So I guess I'm better off spending money on the prv turbo unit already in the car! Not looking for huge gains, just want to sharpen up the acceleration and reduce the turbo lag, ideally without major mods or a bespoke engine build :wink:

Turbo and exhaust, chargecooler and adjustable fuel regulator and tweek the boost. That is all 8)

You won't 'reduce' the lag, but it will feel much more smoother, and be less soggy off boost.

So who can tell me the best route to install a Clio V6 phase 1 engine into a GTA. It comes complete with a six speed gearbox still fitted (no use I believe as in the Clio the engine is transverse?), wiring loom, ecu and most ancillaries and best part of all, it has been offered to me at a (I think) reasonable £1k. Can it be used? Will the UN1 gearbox fit? Is it worth doing?


You can buy a brand new L7X complete with all ancillaries for £1400(210bhp 10.5:1 Version).

So that makes the s/h engine look a little expensive. Aim to pay £500. The gearbox will be no use to you. Might be interesting if someone has a Venturi b/h available to copy.

As you can see the fork arm must come out near the bottom or lower sides, so would most likely hit the transmission tunnel.

I this the same motor shown being wrecked on Friday's Jonathon Ross show? Have to say I was impressed with how well the passenger compartment stood up - though obviously unimpressed that he had to completely twatt what looked like a pretty good motor - just to have a laugh about how unpredictable he thought the handling was when it came on boost :evil: .

Yes it's the same car. Most exposure an Alpine has had for ages. Shame they had to wreck it to do so!

At least JC admitted the car was fast and only got the -ve comments because it was cheap and available to smash up!
