And thats because the badge is above the rad and hot water rises, which may not always be the case for a GTA.

And Darren, I really think that your engineering potential is shinning through.

I'm begining to mis trust my guage, all I did was give the whole system a really good flush, except the heater matrix, and the temp gauge reads really low now, 15 dgs less than before. I think the gauge goes 50/90/110, under normal driving it is just under 70 and last time I went to the ACE, it was reading 65 as I cruised up the M3 at a good pace.

Is it possible to use your tool at the same time as the in-car guage in order to roughly calibrate it via dual readings? or do you screw the meat-o-meter into the std temp sensor position?

Over 9 odd years of owning my GTA I've concluded that the instrument pod has to be the worst feature of the car.

Not only does it squeak and look like part of the Blakes Seven set but the only dial that never seems to cause owners much grief is the rev counter. Oh for a curvy, ergonomic and reliable instrument pod!

Simon - yep you can use my gauge either with the probe in the coolant by removing the temp sender, (in which case you get no dash reading) or tape it to the brass casing of the temp sender and be able to see both.

Once you remove it from the steel probe the actual sensor is only about the size of a grain of rice so although it's fairly delicate it's easy to attach with some insulation tape and still gives very accurate figures to compare with the dial on the dash.

I'm sure it's not the temp dial at fault as it gradually goes up to the red when you start driving the car hard.

I have no reason to believe it's wrong as the engine feels hot hot hot and takes ages to cool down after it's overheated (obviously i pull over immediately), don't want to cook it (or it maybe already...)

Yeah Jenna was good but Glynis Barber as Soolin gets my vote.

She was even better in Dempsey and Makepeace though, particularly in the opening credits, pictured in expensive looking lingerie from memory.

As a young boy my face was pretty much like this every episode

However my favourite 1980's tv babe had to be 'Helga' from Alo Alo, sexy suspenders under that german uniform... She's probably in her 80's now! :shock:

Mr Jon - in your original post about this problem ("Battery Light" - 26 June - sorry - can't figure out how to do the bit where you include bits from previous posts) you said that the radiator looked like it had come off a Ford Granada . Is the rad in your car the correct rad for the car or not?

If the radiator is not the correct part then maybe it just doesn't have the capacity, or required design, to handle the amout of heat that the engine chucks out when its on full chat. If it has a top hose without any means of bleeding then it may well be airlocked, preventing full flow of cool water back to the engine. Perhaps enough to deal with cruising but not enough to cool down an engine at high revs and on boost.

Hi Mitchella, after further investigation the rad is apparently good and was purchased from Simon Autos last year. The rad was removed last week when i had a new fan installed, turns out the fan was non standard and off a ford granada or something.

If it's an air lock preventing hot water getting to the radiator then don't know where to start!!! Maybe the garden hose pipe might work...

This star trek talk is of absolute no interest to me, but Daisy is a different story. The "new" Daisy in the new Dukes of Hazzard film could be a screenfull.

As for treating cars like the General Lee, I can confirm that a pug 405 TD estate does not behave well after a couple of secoonds airborne. Good enough to get me to the curry house round the corner, but only good enough as a Christmas tree substitute afterwards, all dash lights ON. Company car, just needed a new sump, accident report, "went over pot hole in road then all the dash lights came on, luckily I managed to coast to the phone box for help"
