flushing coolant

im planning on flushing the full system tomoz can anyone recomend where to start and if its going to be a pain getting rid of air locks?

Jack the back of the car up and take the rad pipes off the front (ideally remove the radiator if you can be bothered because the pipes arent at the bottom so you may have some gunk collected that wont just drain out) virtually the whole lot will drain out. There is a bleed valve for the system at the front and one on the top of the engine near the back......I have only ever had to use the fron one.....the engine seems to have sorted itself out when I have re-filled previously.

thanks,i will give it a go tomoz also got some water wetter to go in help it run a bit cooler not that it runs hot :lol:

As for air locks, no problem. You bleed the rad with the on-board bleed pipe, and the engine does it self through the expansion tank.
There is a bleed nipple on the top of the water pump, but I naver have any air in it there.
Also I think it is good policy to do it all with the interior heater control on "hot" so that the matrix gets flushed, clened and bled too.

I did it with the car on a high kerb and the front bumper (and rad) over hanging to the road, so you can get good access.

Well I decided to do some flushing myself wow what a lot of gunk. Have put all back together but need to check for no airlocks. Where is this onboard bleed pipe Simon

On my car, it is a 6 inch black tube with a screw in cap fixed at the top of the rad on the drivers side. The cap end dangles down to about where the water goes into the rad. You may find that when you unscrew the cap nothing happens (normal siutuation) because this pipe too is full on gunk. You just need a bit of wire to poke up the tube to clear it out.

do you have to take the front spoiler off or can you get at it from underneath

You dont need to remove the bumper .Is quite easy to get at .
