Camshaft for A310 V6

Help!
Do you know anyone with experiance of re-profiling PRV (2.7ltr) camshafts, or who sells sports camshafts for this engine? (NOT Politecnic!!)

VEC are the best option. They advertise in mille mile and Le Turbo.
Alternatively Simon or Meca parts.
I guess you could email Kent, Piper or Newman cams and see if someone else has done one...
I would think It's a bit difficult with the odd fire engines as they'd get rougher and rougher but I'd be please to be told different.

Thanks will try VEC, Simon's cams are a bit 'soft', duration not much longer than the standard.

..ah, but remember, it all depends what amount of lift the duration is measured at. Some 'mild' cams can actually be quite wild..

..and for more confusion, on the Renault MRV6 paper which lists all the cam timing for all the V6's, the figutres are different to the ones on the A310 V6 engine manual.....both papers are written by Renault, but they used different lift x duration figures.

Thanks, this gets more complicated! Will try VEC as they should know what they are doing.

Also for intrest (and in the hope of finding cams) I called DMC (Delorean) they seem to know a person who is running a 'standard' A310 PRV (2664cc) running 250bhp at the fly. Owner lives near Reading I believe. Does anyone know who he is??

Only way 250bhp is acheivable on the atmo engine, is capacity upgrade to 2849, 300+ degree cams, 12mm lift, around 11:1 compression, big valve heads, porting, triple webers, manifolds, exhaust, .....so far from standard...

Sorry meant standard as standard for the cc only (2664cc).Would assume that he (the 250bhp (claimed) man) has all you mentioned with 'large' webers (46ida's with the ventura's enlarged).

If we consider the 2664cc engine, the best that could be achieved, without going completely nuts is 210bhp (on Carbs), as that is as much as Porsche could wring out of their 2.7ltr engine (on carbs) if more was required they moved to mechanical injection and very expensive engine modifications. Not in my league.

With my first attempt at tuning the 2664cc engine the hope is to achieve 190bhp with any more being a blessing! To achieve this I will be using gas flowed head, free flow manifolds, Weber 40it (ventura at 34mm) and a 'non standard' cam, which I have yet to find.

Any tips gratefully received!

Although not the best design the odd fire is actually the smoother engine. The even fire is a bodge to run efi. It will soon get lumpy though with extreme cams.

Buy a nice 24V lump instead :wink:

if you are happy with 200hp from an atmo then get yourself an early low milage laguna v6 engine with injection, fit an emerald management system and bigger injectors and you will be there.
8) Oh, you'll need an exhaust too of course, a bigger radiator, high pressure fuel pump, sump and lower casing (from your old engine), .... :?

As many have mentioned on other threads, It would appear that the biggest restriction on power for the atmo engine is the 'twee' inlet and exhaust tracts in the head. So anything you can do to improve the breathing will give benefits.... so you seem to have that under control... :wink:

Very keen though to keep the engine as 'original' as is possible, same cc, carbs (though webers) etc.

Thanks also, good point on the heads, they are very restictive as standard and probably the most limiting factor on the 190+ bhp dream, as are the talbot tangora inlet manifolds I intend to use. Both though are having a large amount of 'scrap' aluminum removed in the hope that they will become a little less 'asthmatic'

Does anyone know of anyone who is the 'guru' tuner when I have finished the engine, obviously will have to be an ace at trying to balance the Webers ! Any recomendations?

IMO Anyone with any carb balancing experience should be able to balance these carbs. It doesn't make any difference whether they're balancing 2 carbs or 12 carbs, the principal should be the same.

Nope, I was going to say exactly that.. :)

It could be an Escort with 2 carbs, or a V8 with 4, any tuner worth their salt and tuned carbs long enough can sort them out..

The only downside is the IDA or ITs are not a commonly used as the DCOE types..
