Turbo removal

I had a word with two Daves at Bromley and it looks to be fairly straightforward they way they tell it :lol: .One quick question though ,on the water cooled turbos is it easier to undo the rear water feed at turbo or at the block :?:
Block looks favorite but will it still pivot out :?:

I always undo at the turbo....the pipe has a flexible bit on it so its no trouble to move it out of the way. Watch out for the studs snapping on the exhaust side. I had a new turbo less than 2 years ago and the studs on it broke earlier this month when I went to remove it. The biggest nuisance are the bolts on the lower oil feed pipe....they are a bigger to put back on, particularly the back one. Also watch out for the oil feed gaskets....mine split when I put it back together last year and I ended up with an oil slick followed by a fire at the Teesside event. Sent some poopr woman and her kid running for cover when I stopped next to her for the marshalls to use their extinguishers!! :lol: Apparently she shouted....oh god why did he have to stop here!!!!! 8)

Thanks 8) I've had a preliminary nut 'n' bolt loosen and that bottom feed seems the most awkward to get at .

Gaskets

Ref gaskets on oil feed i used some hylamar blue to help.
Regards the water pipe unions. To rejuvenate the copper crush washers just heat till red with blow torch then cool, good as new. failure to do so will result in them leaking unless you renew.

Regards Rear Water pipe i also disconnected from the turbo, the only problem pipe is the lower oil pipe as it gets in the way when trying to remove turbo.
