Anyhow - got the box off and dismantled it and found the culprit - strangely enough a little IC that drives the ISCV outputs was melted. Cleaned off the soot and the rest looks OK. I have the bit out but its too badly damaged to get a part number off. Any of you hoarders got an old/spare unit handy and could tell me the part number? Its one of the ICs that is attached to the large heatsink in the corner, under the 35-way plug. Its the one that has 11 terminals coming out of it - all the others have 2 or 3. The ID number might be under the clip - these come off and go back on fairly easily although they are bit gummed up with varnish.
As an alternative, anyone got a dud unit that they are willing to part with so that I could get the part out off (assuming its not in the same state as mine).
Third alternative is - anyone got a working unit for a turbo that they are willing to sell.
