Spider Speed Sensor, is this it?

Postby biologist » Wed Jan 24, 2007 3:27 am

My Spiders speed readout has suddenly died and I'm wondering
if the sensor has fizzed it. I've checked all the fuses and they all look good. If anyone can confirm that this is the sensor in question (the first pic)
and if the second pic is its location.
Looking through the maintenance manual its not clear on the exact
location of the sensor but the one I've found looks just like the one in
the first pic.

Also does anyone know what these sensors cost? The one in my car
has started to persish around the junction with bits of plastic
crumbling away. I guess thats why they are so heavily heat shielded
and could probably do with some more.

This is a very common spider problem.
I'm sure the spider owners here will advise on the best methods to reduce reoccurrence.

Yes, thats it. Its a JC5 box on the Spider as used on Lagunas so it shouldnt be that expensive.

Yes that's it....... as mentioned above it's a common problem them dying because of the heat from the exhaust,

replace it and insulate it..... well and you'll be ok..... they are cheap about £30 the new ones just clip in.... the originals use a locking pin ..... not needed

Well the sensor arrived yesterday and I fitted it last night.
As the muffler was out, needed a cracked support bracket rewelded,
it was dead easy to swap over. I also purchased some reflective wrap
to provide some extra protection and put this over the existing
heat shield material. I still need to replace the plug itself but the
brittle and busted plug that remains still functions so no hurry there.

A quick test up and down the driveway and shes all well again in time
for the Superkhana this Sunday.

cheers, Rod
