Oil catch tank

It's a mod after 5900 ish .Replacing the catch tank with a filtered filler cap .
I was thinking to bin the tank on mine and go with this simpler setup ?I have a filtered cap from the 25 engine lying about somewhere ,pretty sure its the same type . Any disadvantage in doing this ,breathing wise ????

I'm guessing its an improvement as later models were'nt fitted with the catch tank......mine wasnt certainly.

I think the original set-up is just surplus to requirements (over engineered) and not really necessary. Mine was bypassed ages ago as one of the catch tank oil lines was weeping oil.

Hasn't seemed to have made any difference.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Its a common fault for the drain on the plastic tank to snap too...

I was thinking it may be the cause of my dipstick blowout .Running more boost would accentuate it .Simon T ,BIG Mart :?: :?: are you running tanks :?:

Yep I have a catch tank on mine. Thought your oil shooting from the dipstick was due to a knackered engine? I'm starting to relate my oil coming out after a hard bend or roundabout thinking about it... Simon Have you fitted the breather or plug to your dipstick yet?

I have a very early car and a catch tank too.
I was thinking on changing to the simpler newer set up but some one told me it was a pretty good set up, must have been DG.. or was it Mr Dell???

Anyway, for the dipstick overflow situation, I wrapped a bit of flannel around the top of the tube held on with a couple of wire twists. (Ben told me that these wire twist pliers would be really usefull, absolutely right, a great invest) When I took it off a few weeks ago, it was soaked in oil.

When I put the engine back in, I will be bunging up the dipstick. I have a chemists black rubber bung, just right for the job and thought I would put a screw in the top and wire it to the top of the tube, so it does not get lost just in case it does blow out. I also have the ART intake on the car, I think Big_MVS suspected that this was the cause???

It can be nothing to do with any intake system you have pre-turbo, even if you had the pipe just open to atmosphere..

If you look at the catch tank(or cap type), you will see on the breather system you have one pipe coming from the intake manifold (one way valve - below the throttle body) and another going to the intake side of the turbo...

People are getting oil spill problems from the dipstick when they throttle off so Im told... On overrun/throttle off the one way valve opens in the inlet manifold and puts vacuum on the breather system, far higher suction than the side before the turbo as this has a closed throttle plate on this side. (if you put your hand over the turbo with the throttle closed it will hardly suck on your hand at all)
