Tyre size.

Postby jaimiew » Thu Apr 12, 2007 4:15 pm

My GTA Turbo will hopefully be back on the road again soon after a long period laid up and in pieces, :D but it is in severe need of new rubber all round. Fronts are not a problem but prices I am being quoted for rears are quite frightening.

I have the standard "turbine" alloys and currently have fitted 255/45/15 on the rear. However I note on Stephen's "sticky" post entitled New Tyres in the For Sale and Wanted section that he states GTA Standard Rear size as 225/50/15.

Is this correct? Will 225/50/15's fit the standard turbine alloys, as these are infinately more reasonable price wise and much easier to get hold of, or do I need to save my pennies and wait even longer before I can get my car back on the road.

Well done Jamie,

plenty of GTA owners run on 225 tyres, I think you will see that they are mentioned in the drivers handbook too.

The other option, which I took, is to fit larger wheels, like 17 inch, and the 255x17 tyres are then cheap(ish) again.

see page 7, paste all of this link into your browser.

see you soon ???

Atmo's ran 225/50's on turbine alloys from the factory. As long as you get a decent brand I shouldn't think you'll notice much difference in every day driving. They do look a bit skinnier in the arches though.
