GTA rear lights

Postby 108002917 » Sun Jun 03, 2007 9:55 pm

Hi, Does anyone know if it possible to remove the outer perspex cover from the rear lights? The offsite light cover seems to have discoloured slightly and the discolouration appears to be on the inner surface rather than on the outside.
It looks as if the outer cover may be removable, but I don't really want want to remove the light just to find out, I was hoping that someone may have already experienced removing the cover from the light.

Any advice will be most welcome. :?

You can polish out any scratches or blemishes from the plastic by using "brasso" or "silvo" metal polish. Takes a bit of time as they are only very lightly abrasive and you'll never quite get it back to that brand new shine but it cheered up my old scuffed covers quite nicely.

Thanks all for your replies. It is good to know that the perspex covers comes off, as I am pretty certain that the discolouration is probably on the inner surface.
I have tried various polishes such as T-cut etc, but it doesn't seem to have much affect on the discolouration, which may actually be discolouration of the perspex and not on the inner surface as I am hoping?

How much work is involved with actually removing the light units? I know that they are not as simple as many modern cars, but there again it is an alpine after all !!!

Cheers,

Jeff

There are 4 long hex nuts that are accessed through the inner panel behind covers .They will most likely be rusted up and you may unscrew the studs out of the plastic .Take it easy and soak ya nuts .
The Perspex/Acrylic ( it's most likely polycarbonate though ) will deteriorate in time due to UV exposure .................

Spot the plastics geek
