Strange idle on T2 any ideas?

Postby steveatyork » Sun Oct 14, 2007 8:18 pm

Any ideas anyone with the T2's strange idle :?

Whats happening is the idles all over the place (more so when it warms up) the idle will fluctuate between 1 and 2000 rpm and somtimes stall.

Done all the normal checks like hoses etc

Funny thing is the first time it happened was when i switched the aux coolent fan on, reving up and down and stalling. switched the fan off and it idled OK :? It just does it 95% of the time now

Took it out tonight and noticed somthing i havnt noticed before? with the lights on they are flickering inc the instrument lights. could it be related :?: :?: Just sounds a poss to me.

Any ideas :?:

On another note :x took the T2 out with the lads Pug GTI m16 189 BHP on the same dyno the T2 went on. hes faster  nothing much in it untill about 80 then hes faster, saying that the pugs striped out so i would have thought much lighter then the T2 and it isnt shaped like a brick

Even on steel cars, you can have earth problems, clean and check the earth straps maybe.

Is it still running mechanical injection?
If so they seem to be fussy as far as the CO is concerned.

yeah could be a dodgy earth...

I've had similar issues with mine, flickering lights etc & it wouldnt idle at all!
Turned out to be the -ve from battery to chassis, as some muppet saved $2 & put in a steel kill switch & it rusted!!!

Also its apparently quite good to run a separate earth directly to the head from the battery, regardless of anything!!!

A few japanese cars (Skylines etc) can get 5-7hp from purely increasing earthing!!!

I'd look at battery/chassis earths & ignition too...
