Hi all. Anyone know this car?

Postby paul_J » Tue Jun 16, 2009 9:33 am

Hi all, new to the forum and new owner of this GTA turbo. Never owned anything like it before, however have done my own 205 gti6 engine conversion which gave me some confidence to then buy a 20 yr old french car! Have to say I love driving it, also was not prepared for how many heads it turns. But enough waffle, here is the car

I believe it has 6 previous owners. Am I right in thinking it has a non standard rear spoiler possibly from an A610? Also possibly A610 mirrors? Also the number plate is a bit slaggy (the GF hates it) but its been on the car for ages.

So if anyone has any info that would be great! It is taxed, MOT'd and on the road after a SORN I'm sure you will be pleased to know.

Cheers

Paul

Definately A610 rear spolier and left hand drive A610 mirrors.

That's the one that has been on ebay for about 18 months  Glad it's got a new owner now.

Looks very clean and a goodun to me but the A610 rear spoiler always worried me, was it a visual enhancement by a previous owner or was it involved in some sort of accident....Is there any evidence in the cars history at all?

The history file is pretty hefty, most from main dealers and bills from PJ Autos, it has also had a full respray from a main dealer (£1700..!) I reckon thats why there's no stencils on the bumper. Found a receipt for new mirrors but nothing about the spoiler. Have a few problems to sort out, the manual door pull on drivers side is not working, all the leather needs a lot of tlc.. dodgy trip computer as well  hopefully this is just the connectors ...

Welcome to Alpine ownership

You will be fine, maybe they added the spoiler when the respray was done. It's a rare GTA that hasn't seen any paint in it's lifetime.

Was the car once owned by someone from my neck of the woods (Altrincham I think)?

Hi- how well do you find the LHD A610 mirrors work for you?
I have a set but have been holding off fitting them as the angles are supposed to be wrong? I think they look better (plus the glass is easier to get) .

I just wondered if you had any thoughts about the viewing angle???

Cheers

Aren't these the same as the mirrors that were fitted to all R19's?

Yes but the GTA/A610 versions were only available LHD in this fitment so the mirror angle is very steep on the RH side and shallow on the LH side.

I did try a LHD A610 though and found the viewing angle was acceptable.

Same mirrors (that is where mine came from) but different mounts...and different angles on each side- I have a set of A610 LHD mounts.
I was contemplating trying to get a set of "rhd" ones made but like many dreams of mine I haven't got far, so I was wondering if the LHD ones worked ok anyway?

Well thanks to some members here I've been able to track down some parts and have been doing a lot of work on the car. Needed a lot of tidying up!

Have found a lot of small problems with the wiring. It has had two alarms systems installed at various times so the loom is very messy. Oil level gauge is not working currently. have tested the actual gauge and that is working so it may be a dodgy connection somewhere in the loom (yes there is oil in it  ). Oil warning light does not show with the ignition on,- is this the sensor on the oil pressure sender takeoff or is that for the cooling fans?

Repaired a wire in the speedo connector in the wheelarch so will take it for a run tomorrow and see if it behaves! Found that someone had just disconnected the relay for the fuel gauge.. spose thats one way to solve a problem

Something that's baffling me is the hazard warning lights. Press the button and only the offside flashes. But the indicators on both sides are working fine on the stalk.. will prob see how much a new relay is from Renault. Am still working my way through all the earth points cleaning them up.

Also replaced the induction system and it is now back to standard (although the dump valve is not original)
Image
So have this which I will probably put up for sale.. no idea who it is made by though...

Still lots to do!
