Not GTA but question on suspension

We've recently bought a 7 yr old Vectra to replace our previous family run around.
I've noticed that when you drive the car and say go over a bump in the road or some unevenness, the car feels quite unstable. It's as though there's something up with the suspension at the back.

It has a tow bar fitted - proper job, one suitable for tugging a caravan. So I'm thinking perhaps this has some how worn or damaged the shocks ?? Presumable the weight of a caravan knackers it ?

Would I be correct and is it more or less likely that the springs can cause this 'nervousness'

Dampers ,snapped springs,worn bushes ,loose nuts .......... generally fecked by the sounds

I had the same problem on my Lexus. It would "twitch" at the rear every time the NSR wheel went over a drain cover, especially in the wet. It was because the OSR wheel had a toe in of over 2 degrees.
I took it to get re tracked on a Hawkeye system, now it rides better than ever before, all the tracking was out. Guy suggested that cars suspensions do wander in time as you hit stuff and bushes wear etc. Worth getting checked every now and again.

Vectra rear lower and upper hub bushes (rose joints) wear badly. Check and replace as nessesary.

Ignore them, ignore them, I cant do that (especially yours Lee) at the best of times, let alone being hit by all three at the same time

Thanks for the comments / views. Obviously it confirms my initial suspicions but also indicates that it might not just be coils and springs but something else. So, I'll book it in to a local garage to get their oppinion before I take corrective action.

I was only charged £95 for a 4 wheel measurement and correction. It was out on all 4 corners. They said it would just be £45 if there was no adjustment required at all. This is because once it is up on the ramps they can adjust every thing from below, very easily.

Hawkeye is a laser measurement system, very high quality. I will never go any where else now that I have seen it in action.
