Clutch/gearbox

Postby AndyClark » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:31 pm

Here's one for you, gents.

My atmo has not been used for 4 months. The clutch travel is very short and hard. The car snatches at the biting point. It is vitually impossible to select gears.

The brake fluid is 18 months old and the level has not dropped.

There are no visible leaks under the car, in the pedal box or around the slave cylinder.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is the pedal hard from the get-go, or is it incremental and then very hard? How much mileage do you have on the clutch, is it pretty well shot anyway?

Sounds like you are not getting travel on your release bearing for some reason... GTA chassis mech chaps will jump in and advise I'm sure when they get a chance..
... A diamond is only a piece of coal that did well under pressure... PRV afflicted, may be I need to squeeze harder!!!!

I bet it has been sitting on the table for 6 months  In London I mean :P
I've had a few people asking me about membership and also membership cards as they want to compete in sprints and hillclimbs this year but have no way of proving RAOC membership :?
Now ,this is really a job for the membership and competition people but hey I try and help out as and when if I can :P
But on the up side I haven't paid my subs for over a year but am still listed as full member so I can't really complain ...oooopss  ...ahhh feck-it

Was it working correctly before being parked up ?? Pedal travel is restricted ? Check slave movement at the gearbox ,should be 12mm .

Thanks guys.

The clutch was starting to snatch/have short travel before being laid up, though gear selection was OK. The car has done 60k form new and the clutch has always been light and gripped well.

Unfortunately life is on hold until I get rid of the dodgy plumber. Back in court tomorrow. A waste of a year now.
