Twizy test

Postby Trevor Skedge » Fri May 25, 2012 6:44 am

Having spoken about the Twizy at the Ace Cafe meet and going down to my local dealer to pick up a thermostat for the GTA, the salesman offered me a test drive when I was looking around. Glorious weather so I took him up on it. I do like the idea of these but not comfortable with the image, borne out by getting 200 yards down the road and a group of kids shouting " go on, do a wheelspin". Now myself and the salesman could both do with a couple of years on Lighter Life but the Twizy made no fuss and despite being restricted to the estate where the dealership is located, it felt fast enough to keep with local traffic. Ride was a little hard but the salesman told me it had not had it's PDI and the tyres were still pumped up to 40psi for transit. The turning circle is great as it would swing round in the width of the service road with ease. Comfortable in the front and even though he was a manly size chap, he fitted in the rear no problem. This was not their official demo car and that was due to arrive today so he's going to give me a call when it's in fir a test on the open road. I'll let you know how tat one goes and this will have the doors too!

I'll wait a few years until someone starts making proper doors for them, then find one with a shagged motor. Slip a fireblade engine in and it'll be worth having

:-) you'll all be lining up for a rip round the block at the Ace though. Didn't realise there were rear view mirrors on the door, this car is loaded.

Who was the chuffin salesman that persuaded you to have another test drive?

:-) not much chance of me buying one although I put my hands up and say I would like to but can't see when I would use it or what for. Mind you I've bought less sensible things before for no reason.they are far too expensive which is the biggest problem. Better keep saving for the new Alpine.

Twizy

Postby Tony Smith » Sun May 27, 2012 6:40 pm

Paul Sage brought one along to the Crystal Palace sprint courtesy of the local Renault dealer. Used it for a pub crawl last night and said drove and handled well but was slow and a bit bouncy. Car was massively well received by visitors to the show, I reckon they could have sold a dozen with Phildini on the stand! Personally I think it would be great for a first car for those with well heeled parents or pensioners to pop to the shops twice a week. Trouble is the battery rental makes it expensive (£40 a month - which equates to 3-400 miles of diesel in an economy run about) to run as a short term (say under 3 years) proposition if your only doing a few miles a day.
