Halfords - Alpine colour codes available as touch up pens

Postby darrenbiggs » Sun May 17, 2015 7:13 pm

So I went into Halfords earlier to get two touch up pens. One for the BMW and one for Susan's Citroen C4. C4 colour wasn't available off the shelf, but it said they'll mix any colour while you wait.

I gave them the code, and yep no problem, £2.50 for a specific mixed colour code (metallic) in a touch up bottle which has a needle applicator and brush. Bargain actually as they made up a bit too much so gave me a second bottle for free using the extra.

Anyway they said they could make up any colour from their database, so whilst I was waiting I asked if they could look up Alpine colour codes just out of interest. 075 red is available and others - just need to give them the code. I should have asked if it's the matt (two-pack) type or whether it's a gloss red made to match the colour but interesting none the less and for £2.50 worth a shot.

I haven't got one yet and let's be honest, it's not going to be a match for the likes of Andy, but the two I got are a good match and thought this might be useful to someone. They were certainly a lot more helpful than the usual blank looks you get from the Renault dealer.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Thought I would give this go. My GTA has what I believe to be an unusual paint colour - 485 (Gordini Blue?). Just gave them the code and they made up a bottle (perhaps 50ml) with brush in about 10 minutes. £10.99. Sounded like their information was correct, as the guy said it was from 1985. That rings true, as I have a paint swatch from 1984 with 485, Gordini Blue on it. He did call it Alpine Blue, though. A bit like a large touch up pencil. Haven't opened or used it, but looks promising.

Good stuff Andy. Let us know how it matches up. Does that colour need a clear lacquer on top?
