Drivers window saga continues

Postby patch » Sun Nov 13, 2016 5:22 pm

So finally managed to find time to fit my new drivers window regulator but it's not fixed it. :(

After taking out the entire drive mechanism I've now realised that the window is fouling in it's runners somehow.

I've had a good look and the only answer I can think of is that the actual metal frame section on the lock side is bent although there is nothing obvious to see.

The runner on the quarter light side seems to have plenty of free movement but the lock side seems to be the issue. After the window lowers aboout 12" it then really struggles the entire rest of the way.

Anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks

There are small plastic guides held in by tiny tiny screws.Access hole in frame to assemble .Are they there and or in securely?

Yes those are the correct holes. If you run the window up and down you should see two of these come into view.

Yes, my driver's side fouled on the runners - those two plastic runners have tiny screws to attach them to the window. One of mine came loose and the window wouldn't move up.

I've since used new screws with Loctite to keep them in place.

My window still needs assistance on the way up - but that's down to another issue (prob the helicoil wire being worn in places).

Thanks gents, I will have a look when I roll her out again on the weekend. I remember seeing the nylon guide (thanks for the photo Martin) from the top looking down so i'll try and locate the second one.

Well after a break in the weather I got a chance to have another look. I found both the nylon guides, the screws were in and seemed tight enough. I removed both guides with the window mechanism still disconnected the window moved by hand easily without fouling. With the lower guide fitted the window then jams. I've cleaned the guide and can't feel any obvious damage to it.

From what I can now work out, either the nylon guides are worn, the metal guide in the door is damaged or even possibly the bonded metal guide on the window glass is bent?

The easiest first thing to try would be brand new guides if I can source.
