What is this coolant sensor for?

Postby davidmt » Sun May 21, 2017 9:38 am

Ok - I have looked at the wiring diagrams and the white sensor that has a black connector is for the ECU. The sensors for the fans is elsewhere as is the sensor for the gauge. So what is the green sensor for - it has never had a connector but maybe it should?

Reason for asking is that I expect this green sensor on the thermostat housing would be a better measure for the gauge so thinking about swapping the wires over. I have added a low temp thermostat so the gauge temperature stays pretty low as there is little flow to the coolant tank where the gauge temperature sensor is located.

Any thoughts?

mine too is not connected (and no spare lead dangling) so guessing its something used on a Williams or Megane and it was just easier to leave the sensor in than creating a blank. Having said that I think Ian, Swagsupercarsdad's car had the green one connected and the white blank, either that or the green and white are in the opposite positions. either way, only one was connected.
never thought I would want a list but now find myself needing one just to remind me: Clio V6 230, 5 gt turbo, 5 Gordini turbo, Megane RS 300 Trophy.

Thanks - it could be a low coolant sensor rather than temperature (or more likely both) but will have a play and report back.

Just been out to the garage to take a look at mine for you. Attached are a couple of pictures. On my Spider, the green one is connected, and the white not - just as Mark said (well remembered!).
Regards
Ian
