Right 1st time!

100 internet points to BIG MVS, I'll try a tougher one next time!

Maybe in an 80's question of sport guess the sporting celebrity kind of way, that was just too easy.

Hi Les C,

My heater fan stopped working on all the low speeds, just the top speed operating. This I'm told is due to the resistor failing which reduces the power to the motor hence speed.

The green thing is the resistor located in the air duct, so swapped it like for like plus a quick oil of the fan bearings, replace the foam seals and jobs all good.

I think it is actually a heat temp fuse.
I had to change mine a few years ago, because fan would only run on at full speed.

Got it in one! 100 internet pints if your keeping score!

I found the throttle full open switch was throwing high resistance the whole time.

I think it made the driving experience better.....!

I think this is what the internet has been waiting for lol!

The motor was still hit and miss even after some messing and contact cleaner in its holes! I needed to turn it over each time to start it spinning, no good when it’s locked away again. So a trip to maplin and I’ve got another in the post.

Any idea how best to get the cog off and back on the new one, or is it just brute force?

Past experience with scalextric cars is brute force.
however the steel spline is probably splined like a drive shaft, so it is ok to take the cog off a couple of times at least.

I must admit, I have never seen the inside of these door lock units before and wrongly assumed they were just solenoids as all it had to do was push up then pull back ....... so now we know..... Thanks :up
Are you saying you have been able to get an identical new 12v motor from Maplin's that will fit the unit ?
All you can do to get the cog off the old motor is to prise it off ..... I would try long nose pliers with with each "nose" either side of the shaft and gently prise off ..... if it is a bit loose on the new motor, apply a bit of clear nail varnish on a pin and spread it in the hole of the cog before pressing it on ..... not too much, as you don't want it getting into the bearing.
Just for info ..... the two contacts at the opposite end to the connector pins are the ones used to lock/unlock the opposite door when using the key in the external key hole ..... ie:- mechanical central locking so to speak. ;)

Thanks for the tips on the cog removal and I did worry about slippage in the new spindle so it looks like I may be raiding my wife’s nail varnish collection! Although I think gel coat is all the rage now, it cures under UV you know.

The motor hasn’t come yet but it looked good on paper......... TBC
