New Alpine A110 "S"

Postby bcr5784 » Thu Jun 13, 2019 9:59 am

Given that this is going to be announced either at Le Mans or today (depending on which rumour you believe) I thought it worth starting a new topic.
From the leaked pictures it definitely looks more "S" than GT4

Definitely today - presentation starts at 18:30

From someone who has just ordered a Pure, I'm part excited by the development of the car and brand and also a bit concerned that I should have waited a few weeks before placing an order. It is all going to depend on the spec and the price.

I think you will be able to convert your order to an S if want to if you have only just placed your order. (that appears to be the case in France). It's only if your car is already scheduled for production (which I assume yours isn't) that you can't. There is also talk of upgrade kits. Perhaps all that will be revealed in a couple of hours time.

No, it is a way off yet, delivery is scheduled for 31 October. May be complications with that date!

Details are on Alpinecars.com now.

My Alpine app says I can switch to an S if I want too!

It is however, a lot more money. I'm going for a walk with the dog!

I’m down in Le Mans and saw the unveiling of the A110 S yesterday evening. Here are a couple of pictures and the spec / price lists of the two cars on display:

I really like the look of the new wheels on the grey car which I was told are standard on the S, but they are apparently heavier than the Fuchs.

The Matt grey paint looks fantastic but is a 3000 Euro option!! For now I don’t think there are any more new colours.

Carbon roof looks lovely but does offer as big a weight saving as I would have hoped for. The new seats are apparently only skinned in carbon and not a full carbon construction. Not sure if they will weigh less than the originals.

The new interior is nice, but the black alcantara head lining made it feel very dark compared to my Pure. This was probably not helped by the darkish surroundings.

Cosmetically there are now some really nice options (at a cost!), I would be very interested to see how different the driving experience is with the extra power and new suspension setup.

Having had a fantastic trip down yesterday mainly via D roads with mixed weather conditions in my new Pure, I can honestly not think of a more suitable car to bring down here.

What do you think about the changes to the engine?

I am wondering how driving feel is affected, because the changes concerning 0-1000 metres time seems to be very marginal for example (only 0,4 sec faster - But I understand the is not and will never be About straight line Speed)

Do you think it is a worthy upgrade to the existing models?

I think I am probably in the minority, but I think the changes to the engine are spot on for me. I don't want a big slug of midrange torque (and the associated lag) which other remaps offer. The thing I like now is that the engine seems keen to rev to the red line and it's therefore worth hanging on to the gears. Enhance that (as they have) by extending peak torque to 6400 is just the ticket for me.

If Alpine offer the remap at a sensible price I'll probably go for it.

The rest is not for me - but will almost certainly appeal to those who want to track the car a lot. It's pricey though. I configured a Pure as close to the S as possible and it was 4500 euro cheaper. So the bigger tyres, remap and revised suspension settings (which actually cost Alpiine little or nothing) are highly priced. I actually marginally prefer the revised interior - but wouldn't pay much extra for it.

I also wonder if there is a noticeable difference concerning throttle response in general … or if the car is basically the same until you reach 5000 rpm.

So you are saying the only difference between the engine of the regular A110 and the "S" is a remap and Alpine could offer some kind of an "upgrade" to existing A110 owners?? Isn't there also a different Turbo used?

I haven't seen anything said about a different turbo. Litchfield and others demonstrate that you can get 300bhp with the same turbo - just increasing boost. They choose to increase boost lower down the rev range to give a bit slug of midrange (to the detriment of lag and possible gearbox life) Alpine are taking a more conservative approach.

Does anyone know whether the S will be the top of the range or a higher performance model will come along? I reckon it would cost £15k to swap a PE for one for what seems like limited benefit. It will be interesting to see what it's like to drive on a test drive.

I don’t think any of us know for sure but a bespoilered black alpine, rumoured to be a gt4 test mule, has been seen testing. I would be surprised if they didn’t make a road going gt4 version. If they built it for around £75k then I think they would give the cayman gt4 a run for its money

I think the 110s already would give it a run for it’s money. Both cars are 4.4s 0-60 and the alpine is a grand piano lighter
