Not too sure what reply you are expecting, but if you want confirmation that the black box is the TSU, I think we can say that it is. It is a VDO unit, which is what the sender is, as is the instruments, and according to the manual it has six wires going to it, in an eight pin connector, which yours has, the only difference is the position. On the 1990 model year it is mounted as per diag below, unit 327.

But yours is an earlier car, so the positioning could be different. No reason why not. Hope this is of help.

You need an oscilloscope to check this unit, but I suspect you hav`nt got one. However I have got some info from the manual BUT it is for the 1990 model year which should be the same, and may be of help. With the plug still attached to the TSU you should get the following readings looking at the back of the connector where the wires go in:-

..........1.....2
..........3.....4
..........5.....6
..........7.....8

Pin 1. Blank
Pin 2. Blank
Pin 3. To Computer.......................(pulses on `scope)
Pin 4. Earth...................................Should be BLACK
Pin 5. Permanent 12volts..............Should be RED
Pin 6. !2volts with Ignition on.........Should be YELLOW
Pin 7. To Sensor
Pin 8. To Sensor

Can you list the colours in your connector in the same order as above Pse
Could you let us know your results asap as I am away this week until Dec, in warmer climates :D :D :D
