Dipstick tube

Postby mogster242 » Fri Jun 03, 2011 8:47 am

Hi

can anybody suggest where i can get a dipstick tube. mine split yesterday due to corrosion and oil pressure... oil was squirting on the exhaust manifold when putting my foot down, creating a lot, i mean a LOT of white smoke.... thought the engine was on fire, very scary

Thanks

White smoke or Blue ?
Normally they rot at the clamp so you should only get it coming out with heavy cornering .If it's being blown out then you need to do a compression check .
I haven't got any decent spares .If it is bad then cut the pipe below the rot and then put a rubber pipe on and put a bung in .Far better this than spilling oil onto the manifold .
Do you want me to bring a toolkit to Mallory :?:

Hi Lee,

it only happened when accelerating out of round about which seems to match what you say...

definitely white, and there is white residues on the manifold itself...

it is rooten at the bend by the clamp as you say

toolkit might be an idea

OK

Have you fixed the hub nut ? I can bring a complete hub if I can find a half decent one and we'll swap it over if you like .

There are two types of tube - one uses a bolt into the side of the rocker cover, the other uses one of the manifold studs. The rocker cover one is probably the best bet on a GTA though you may have to tap the hole.

yes the hammer was very useful... fixed the oil leak but not the overheating

it was quite useful fixing your steering too hey Andy

anyway, temporary fix is still holding
but will need to source a tube at some point, cant check my oil level at the moment  so if someone has a spare one....
