alternatively, can anybody tell me how Toyo T1-R and Yokohama 048 perform compare with Toyo R888?

or what would you recommend for road and hillclimb use?

I heard rumours that R888 wont be accpeted in hillclimb/sprint events in 2012? is that true?

From what i know from my friends old man who runs in the road going class at local club events the ban on them is for that class only due to moves by the EU to have track biased/dry use only tyres outlawed for road use.

I'd also like a pair of 215/50/16 if anyone has those!

I got my R888s from Camskill.
They were not listed on the web site, but you can make an enquiry to get the prices, or just call them for availability.

Toyo R1R seems to be the replacement for the R888s.

If you look further down the list they also list 888's which are available in soft and, medium compounds but the usual odd, 235 tyre sizes the R1R is a better choice of sizes.
