Hey it's got an MOT...... so far so good.

Full leather interior too which is unusual, plus the old Devil exhaust which I'm a bit surprised hasn't rotted away to nothing by now.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

On the face of it, that doesnt look too bad.
If the main Chassis componets are not rusting away, then it should be an easy one to save.....

It does suggest it was dry stored so yep looks like it could be a good one underneath the slightly tired edges.

Does anyone know the history of this GTA? I've got a friend interested...

I'm pretty sure this was my second GTA that I owned in the 90s. The spec is identical to mine and it was sold in Darwen which is too much of a coincidence.

If it is the same car then back then it was great great car. I bought it at 3 years old with about 15k on the clock. It needed nothing but servicing in the time I had it. I ran it for about 5 years and did some epic trips in it. The most memorable being a sprint through Germany overnight which is the only time I managed to explore its top speed capabilities.

I also used to love driving over the A666 which was a devil of a road but you could get well into 3 figures and flash past slower moving cars. That road is restricted to 50 now!!!

One issue I did have was when I set off on the journey through Germany, I hadn't gone far when I lost all instruments. Not having opportunity to get it looked at properly, I reverted to the emergency repair procedure which I have found works on most faulty electrical equipment which was to firmly twat the faulty equipment with the palm of my hand (this is reported to work with wives also but have not had recourse to try this).

In any case, the instruments sprang back to life and I never had any further problems.

When I sold the car, it was still in great condition. I had the roof painted as the lacquer had started to lift and it looked good with a nice interior and a full service history. I would guess it had about 50k on it then.

I foolishly sold it with the registration number 148GTA. I should have kept the number as I only got about £500 for it. Actually, I should have kept the car although I did sell it for more than I paid for it so I thought I was getting a good deal.

I have some photos of my old car which I can dig out.

I did some digging for you Teglen last night, I read through some old C.A.R newsletters I have as I thought I had seen the reg plate before.

I found an old for sale advert for it from 2002/2003. It was owned by a Edwin Cash from Knutsford in Cheshire. That's where I used to live! Can't say I remember seeing it around though....

In the ad it had a recent water pump and radiator. The asking price was £7500! He had owned it since 1998, maybe he bought it from you Mr Beaver?

Obviously he sold it around that time and then it's been off the road since 2006.

Anyway it looks like a nice car with a good spec, anything £3k or below would be a bargain in my opinion as it has 12 months ticket on it. A decent respray from Andy and you will have a peach*

* Assuming it's not got too much rot underneath.

The timing is about right as it would have been about 98 I sold it but I don't recall it going to Knutsford and clearly if it is the same car, it lost its nice number plate soon after I sold it.

I've found a few snaps of mine and I it looks identical though other than the bumper badge and the exhaust, but some marks on the seats look identical so who knows.

I hope this one does get saved and if itis rot free, it will take little to make it great once again.

I have put a bid on this car as I quite like the look of it. If anyone else wants it then post up rather than drive the price for no reason. If someone on here wants it more than me then I won't battle.

Its gone past my first max bid now and not sure how much I like it. Would hate to bid against someone here and either drive the price up for one of us. See how I feel a bit later.

Blue GTA- I'm bidding!!

Postby Sam G15 » Mon Dec 05, 2011 5:20 pm

Hi All,
I'm Sam and I've been after a GTA for a while, just to let you know I'm bidding on the blue one and will join asap if I get it! Many thanks to Stephen for authenticating my account so rapidly so I can type this....

Cheers to all, here's hoping I can win and report back that it's a peach and after changing the oil it's trouble free for a bazillion miles....

Sam
P.S. Don't worry, I'm a realist I've had 6 Alfas and 2 very bad Porkers so my view of trouble free is pretty liberal!

MVS,

:D £2k was my starting bid. Problem is at say £2500 and ten down to Derby for a £1000 refresh, transport up to Andy for a £2k respray and I wouldn't have even started on the interior which looks a tatty as the outside. So at £5500 it makes the Pistonheads car look better value and lower mileage ( indicated of course).

I'm off on hols Wednesday so will probably have to miss both.
