Wanted: A610 rear brake calipers

Postby Rottbott » Wed Jan 04, 2012 5:16 pm

Anyone know where to get these? Renault say they don't have any and even if they did they'd be a stupid price. Brakeparts.co.uk list them but I don't think they actually have any.

I will also need pads as the brakes have been binding and destroyed my current set, but I assume I can get them anywhere...

Try them for a rebuild kit ?
I know Mr Dell or Johnboy had similar issues recently , borrowed my special tools and I think a quick stripdown and rebuild cured the bind .

I borrowed the tool and bought the seal kit off ebay.

Rebuilt both and they were fine.

There's nothing much else that can go wrong with them other than the handbrake adjuster seizing and seals needing replacing. All fixable.

Brakes international supplied the parts to me- but their pistons only have the piston bit, the handbrake mechanism needs to be moved over- and you need a tool to do that..(Lee M could do it for you maybe). The parts are pennies.
They also rebuilt one of my calipers too. Someone else had another company do some recently - a forum search might turn up that supplier.
Calipers are Peugeot 605 front calipers, which must be the only car rarer than an A610.
Alternatively you can use Citroen XM 3.0 front calipers but you need to replace all the seals with ones for normal brake fluid.
Removing the handbrake cables is also "challenging" and getting replacements isn't that simple at the moment either.
Pads- are car specific, Citroen XM ones fit sort of, but the friction material is in the wrong place and doesn't sweep the whole disc- meaning you get an unworn but beyond the disc that you need to trim off as it wears- MOT man might not like that.
The pads are shared with the Spyder so try searching for that as it seems to be listed more often than an A610.

Thanks for all the info. :) I will rebuild mine if it's the only option but I'd feel happier with new ones. Brakes Int tell me they have one (1) actual 610 caliper which I'm inclined to buy so at least I'll be halfway there.

Peugeot 605 rebuilt calipers are allegedly available, but are listed as 276/22mm or 283/26 where A610 discs are 300/24, is that right?

Failed on handbrake & rear brakes - there's nothing left of them. I could smell the pads burning on the way back from a trip last week. The discs are OK. I suspect my handbrake cables were replaced a couple of years ago.

Sorry I got the 605 cross r fence from another site, I'm sure the diameter doesn't matter (that is to do with the mounting) and the thickness may be fine depending on the pads used.
Personally I'd get your current ones rebuilt (big red got a recommendation) they will come back looking like new. Ask Andyh877 about a set of standard rear spider pads too, he had a supply and they fit perfectly, the XM ones don't but work if you are in a hurry.
Cheers

That was easier than expected - everything came apart fine except one rounded nut on the end of a fluid line, leaving me with this:

Is that all I would need to send away? Big Red sound good, and I could get them done in blue to match the body FWIW. :)

And is this the part you need the special tool to remove? Hopefully I don't need to worry about it...

Somehow this had happened to one of my pads!
