Sump back on and sealed - been out for a blast and no signs of any drips so far so hopefully cured and confirmed not the rear main seal which is a result. Oil was clean but added a magnetic sump plug for good measure.

Also added a new thermostat and cleaned up the coolant pipes. Just needs a little coolant top up now it is all bled through and the fans now kick in when required.

The high torque starter motor works a treat :-).

Once I have put a gold breather on the air pipe I will close the lid for a while as lots of jobs at the other end!

Started on the door wiring today - always a bit nervous when drilling the body but easily removed if required. The stainless connector works a treat and fits perfectly. Doesn't affect the door opening/closing as planned.

Just started to pull the wires through for a door loom I have already built. Hardware will take a bit of fitting but I can see it all working now.

Well I have finally managed to find the right place, brackets and gas strut of the appropriate length and power for the engine cover/boot.

As the engine cover is only fibreglass then a single strut is more than enough even though I started off planning for two struts (you can see the second bracket is already attached to the engine cover hinge).

Key challenge was finding the second anchor point and then specifying a strut with the correct length and power. I originally tried with a spare door strut but that was eventually too short and no where near as powerful enough to keep the engine cover open.

I now have the perfect length for maximum opening angle and enough power to keep the engine cover fully open yet will close when moderate pressure is applied. The angle is significantly wider than the useless metal strut.

The brackets are remarkably easy to fettle and attach at both ends and then the strut is literally push and fit. I reckon anyone with basic drilling and filing skills could fit in less than 30 minutes.

I have a couple of spare brackets for both ends and now know which strut to specify so could make kits for between £45 and £50 (delivered) if there is any interest. If not then I will just share the details in due course.

Gas struts on order and kits should be posted by the end of the week - still waiting for discount/invoice to confirm pricing.

Whilst I was waiting I fitted something I had bought a while back and could be one of the best additions yet :pint

have received my engine cover strut from David in super fast time! (by RAOC standards that is). Will post up when I get a chance to fit it- busy month September.
