Lockdown projects

Postby stephendell » Sat May 09, 2020 12:19 am

How are people getting on with their lockdown projects? Sadly despite best intentions this one is still sleeping...

As our business has practically ground to a halt at present, I have managed to do more work on the GTA over the last 3 weeks than I have over the last 3 years! It may actually see the light of day again before the end of the year. Are Simon Auto still shipping at the moment? I have most of the parts that I need to finish the car but I know that there are certain bits and pieces that I'll still need to source.

Although I am now retired (officially a Grumpy Old Git now) I still work part time 3 days a week in a big Garden Centre. My background is: Landscape Management & Horticulture, I used to manage Parks & Open Spaces for local authorities so Lockdown had given me plenty of time to do jobs at home, in the garden and on my 1993 A610 that I have been meaning to do for some time, safe in the knowledge that I couldn't use the car so I could take as long as I wanted to get the jobs done. This included:
Dashboard removal to fit a new instrument binnacle as my LCD Fuel Gauge was badly pixellated and almost useless plus replacing the pexi glass cover on the secondary instrument gauges that had been damaged years ago. Plexi glass cover came from Simon Auto in Germany.
Cleaning up/refurbishing front brake calipers and fitting new drilled and grooved front discs, these came from ex-auto in France who have been open throughout Lockdown as Simon Auto has. I use Mintex 1144 pads both front and rear...very good.
Also had my Gotti 3 piece split rims refurbished by a company in Chippenham that were in dire need of some TLC!
Cleaning up and respraying a lot of the engine bay using VHT Satin Black Paint
Retreating all of the leather interior and lots of other bits n bobs...so time well spent I reckon and also giving the paintwork a good clean and polish.
Back at work now so back to some normality...whatever that is...!

Cheers, Barry.
