A110 Gearbox Inquiry

Postby AlpineBleu » Sun Apr 09, 2017 9:43 pm

My father and I just completed an 1100-mile rally across Arizona in a '69 A110 1300S. The gearbox that is fitted to the car is #3542459 F. The final drive ratio will only allow the car to run (comfortably) to about 75mph in 5th gear. This number does not correspond to any of the gearboxes shown on pages E-2 and E-3 of the "Manuel De Reparation." Can someone please direct us to a source for a gearbox swap, or rebuild with different final drive ratios?

We are located in the Southern US and we have not been able to find anyone reputable who has experience with these gearboxes.

Thank you in advance,
A Fellow Alpine Fanatic

There is a guy in Scotland who is a specialist in these gearboxes who, I'm sure, could tell you what options are possible with your gearbox. He recently overhauled my gearbox and has done work for people all over the world.
I'd suggest that you contact him and provide as much information as possible about the gearbox and what you'd like to achieve. His name is Steve Swan and his email address is:-

[email protected]

I don't recognise that gearbox number, it looks like a serial number rather than a type designation. Doesn't the identification plate have a gearbox type number like 353 or 364? Steve might have some idea.

I spoken to Steve recently and he has the last of his 5 speed big boxes with new internals for sale at £2k with standard diff. Quaife extra.

Thank you both for the information. I find the serial number on the gearbox highly suspect as well. Hopefully this can all be resolved.
