Modified production class

Postby Tony Smith » Sun Dec 04, 2005 8:19 am

Just putting together my Christmas list and safety equipment for my track car project is top of the agenda. What am I going to need to comply in this class? I'm sure Peter and Andy know exactly whats required.
Are 4 point harnesses ok?
Is a full roll cage required or will a half cage do?
I assume I need one of those ignition isolater things?
Do I need to put the battery in a box?
Anything else essential come to mind?

Thanks for any help/advise

Tony,

I Peter will send you a copy of rules and regs for the series he competes in if that's the series you want to enter as things vary from race series to series.

Harness wise...... you'll need a 5 or 6 point 3" width for a start, don't buy any second hand safety equipment as they have use by dates on stuff, and it's your life you're thinking about :!:

if you need ideas on what to buy have a look at Demon Tweeks as they sell everything so it's a good starting point, but they're prices are a bit hot sometimes so shop around.

good luck with the build 8)

The regs change for next year, so dont rely on this years. You will need an FIA spec harness (gone up a spec for next year).....they start at 4 point and go up from there (cheapest is around £100...Demon Tweeks do everything but they arent cheap). You need a half cage minimum, there are diagrams and specs in the back of the blue book which is what you need to consult. Your battery only needs to have the positive terminal covered and marked as long as its not in the driver'scompartment (in which case you need a box). You need an on/off sticker with direction on your ignition barrel and if youre doing speed events you'll need a timing strut attached to the front at the right height...and thats about it apart from a suit and helmet.

Check his cages meet the MSA standard......I bought a car with whats known as a show cage once....thankfully someone spotted it before I landed at the first event!
