Here we go! Heres what I said after the RR session. Note the 20% drivetrain loss is not realistic when you know that Clee lost 60 something BHP through his!

Well, the final results......194bhp and 242lbft of torque with 20% correction for drivetrain. Not what I was hoping for! It would appear there was a crossed wire when I advanced the igntion and Ive actually retarded it so that will account for some of it, although I'm not sure by how much. The guy at my garage reckons the RR must be suspect as he reckons on a turbo car the torque and bhp readings should be more similar. Oh well.....theres always next time!!

Perhaps the power and torque figures would have been more similar if you figure in enough transmission loss and the sticky brake calliper!

my gta is booked in at noble motorsport next month hopefully have the nitrous intercooler spray rigged up before it goes on the rollers, and a couple of other bits and bobs fitted
my brother took his starlet gtt there to be mapped and that ended up making 221bhp  they come across very profesional so i think its in good hands the only bad part is they dont let you watch it on the rollers :( must be to do with insurance reasons

Or maybe it's because most people don't like to see them screaming the nuts off their pride and joy.

Mr Jon...is that the Starlet 1300 turbo that is a japanese import from about 8 or 9 years back??? Its just that those figures looks a little wild if it is! (I saw a feature from a Toyota tuning co. and they managed only 180bhp with a fully rebuilt engine running huge boost)

What's Mr Jon got to do with it :?: I'd check your pocketbook Peter  Mr J's motor would probably break the RR , chuff itself then do a Hemel Hemptead on the surounding area

Good point...my eyes are failing! Meant gt5 or steveatyork or whoever he is this month!!! There is a local chav in Workington with a Starlet who claimed to have 180bhp on his almost standard car until I told him of the website address and the fact that his car only came with 135bhp when new.....after I'd issued him a ticket for handbrake turning in Aldi carpark

"a ticket".....How un-sporting. I'm sure he was just learning about his car's handling.

I Know.... it's just the job.

220BHP it was :) The Starlet GT Turbos are getting really popular, maybe a competitor to the Mighty Renault GTT, The Starlet was running a TD04 Turbo and a front mount and a Piggyback ecu :) with bigger injectors, 220 bhp is about it without forged pistons then its 300bhp TRUE

Impressive...if only they were rear wheel drive I might buy one (but for the image!). My point was about the RR......there is a trend, especially amongst RRs whose main market is the Maxpower yoof to create exaggerated figures to impress and attract business.
Dave Walker one of the countries leading car tuners is always banging on about the excessive figures people can get at certain RRs.
If you come out with more than 270BHP in the GTA you'll know theyve hiked it up! Torque should be in the 250 region though.

Shame the GTA doesnt respond to a piggyback units like the japanese cars do...

Things like Dastek, Unichip etc, can't remedy the over correcting ignition retard and fuel enrichment caused by the high inlet temp air sensor..

There just isnt much to do at a RR with one yet.....no fuelling to play with, no ignition advance/retard and no cam adjustment. My 2 sessions took all of an hour and that included tieing the car down!!
